Michigan Transitions Truck Parking Availability System

Truck Specialized Parking Services, Inc. (TSPS) is pleased to announce the award of a contract from the state of Michigan to take over the existing private truck stop parking availability system along I-94 from the Indiana border to east of the I-69 interchange. This contract transitions the system from a pilot project to a sustained DOT program. As part of the original design team and operators of the system for the past three years, TSPS will ensure continued successful collection, aggregation and dissemination of the truck parking availability information provided to an estimated 10,000 truckers on a daily basis. The Michigan real-time parking availability information network is the largest operating in the country and combines both public and private truck parking availability information 24/7/365, allowing truckers to make critical parking decisions contributing to their safety and productive use of hours of service.

TSPS will be responsible for operations and maintenance of the system collecting, aggregating and disseminating this real-time truck parking information to variable message highway signs on the I-94 corridor in the Southwest and University Regions and through mobile apps, in-cab systems, and websites.

Collin Castle, P.E., Michigan DOT’s Connected Vehicle Specialist, commented that “TSPS’s experience, focus and knowledge of truck parking availability detection systems are key to the continued success of this critical service. We look forward to their continued oversight and guidance moving forward.”

TSPS President Rick Warner states, “Michigan’s vision and leadership have allowed us the opportunity to prove the importance of this service the past three years. Moving forward together with this contract provides truckers and the DOT a seamless transition as we all focus on broadening the network and services offered.”
